Sandro Tonali has received a two-month suspended ban for his gambling violations. The ban is suspended until the conclusion of the 2024-25 season and will come into effect if Tonali commits a new violation.
The FA charged the midfielder with 50 breaches of FA Rule E8 for placing bets on football matches between 12 August 2023 and 12 October 2023, and he admitted to this.
Football Association statement For context, the Italian soccer star first came under investigation in October 2023 when he was suspected of having wagered on soccer games despite being prohibited from doing so. Eventually, Tonali admitted to having violated the Football Association’s rules on multiple occasions.
He is currently suspended from competing because of wagering on games in Italy. His latest ban, on the other hand, relates to bets he placed after his transfer to Newcastle. The new penalty relates to accumulator bets involving Newcastle that he placed between September and October.
In addition to being handed a two-month suspended ban by the Regulatory Commission, Tonali was fined £20,000 for his wagering misconduct. Should Tonali avoid further sanctions, he will be able to return to competing once his previous ban expires on August 27.
Tonali Cooperated with the Soccer Authorities While Tonali placed several bets on Newcastle, he never bet on his own team to lose. As a result, the FA believes that he hasn’t damaged the integrity of the matches in question. In addition, the FA acknowledged Tonali’s collaboration and the fact that he self-reported his transgression at the “earliest possible opportunity.”

Newcastle statement Tonali was not the only player involved in illegal betting. Brentford striker Ivan Toney, for example, recently completed his ban and returned to competing.
